How did the Blackshark hook up with the Sawmi? Just imagine the harmless and very spiritual Sawmi as a mariner, quietly paddling his rowboat on the great spiritual sea of the unconscious, bothering nobody, loving everything in sight, when, suddenly and inexplicably, looming out of the depths, creating immense roiling tidal waves and unsettling seismic activity, the vast brooding form of the Blackshark appears.

How did the Blackshark get its name? We don't know. The Sawmi will only say that if the Great White Shark is the most fearsome of the known marine predators, then it "stands to reason" (the Sawmi's reason anyway) that there must be a Truly Awesome Black Shark out there somewhere.

Why is the Blackshark unknown to science? According to the Sawmi, no one has actually seen the Blackshark and lived to tell about it. For this reason, opinions about his whereabouts, size and general appearance are bound to differ.

What are the Sawmi's views on these matters? The Sawmi's "carefully reasoned, highly scientific analysis of the known evidence" after discounting "wild, unsubstantiated statements that can only frighten the public in general and the harmless Sawmi in particular" opines that the Blackshark is about ten miles long and has been physically quiescent for several centuries because he is "sleeping one off."

Is the Blackshark the Biblical Leviathan? The Sawmi believes this to be the case and is tremendously heartened by Isaiah 27:1.
